Crimes against Asians in New Zealand?

Heard something re this on the radio today. What's with this thing re Asians being targetted by gangs etc. robberies and stuff. Is bias a factor? Concerned Aussie. One Asian businessman said he was thinking of hiring Triads as bodyguards and Helen Clarke was angry about this. What's "going down"????
