Why is it that the English people are not comfortable with the French?

I have noticed in so many cirstances and even in trivialities of the movies and TV series that people from England are not comfortable or perhaps seems to be angry with the Frenchmen (or vice-versa?), what is the reason for this? Is this related to historical events? or to racial or cultural reasons?
