Fired for not working on day off?

Every now & then i get called in to work on my day off. Usually I say yes. They're pretty good to the employees. But can your employer say to you "I know you're off saturday and sunday, but you have to come in or you won't have a job on monday." honestly i hope they can't. that's a damn good way to lower morale and cause disgruntled employees.
